Setting the Bones of a Mall Space
By: A cateyegirl  -  2/25/2016

Our customers never really see what goes into setting up displays.  Step one for us, in a mall or at a show, is "setting the bones."  Placing cabinets, furniture "just so" before we open crates and start building displays -- vignettes with a story or a theme.

Below you will see the bones set, waiting for the displays to be built at one of our spaces at Precision Fruit and Antiques on I-82, just west of Yakima.  And below that you will see pictures of a few of our vignettes . . . and some pictures of the wanting our second space is yearning for . . . to see how all of it comes together . . . get your calendar out and plan a little trip to Yakima after the first of March when the store re-opens for the season.

And then there is this . . . the bones are set and, well, we have worked ourselves into a bit of a mess to clean up.  The good news is we have some plaid to garner a little inspiration from . . .

Have you heard of North Yakima?  The short story is . . . what is now Union Gap used to be Yakima.  Then the railroad came through and located north of Yakima (Union Gap).  Not wanting to be bypassed by the railroad, Yakima loaded some buildings on skids and moved to North Yakima to what after 1913 would be known simply as Yakima.

We have several amazing North Yakima pieces including the postal cabinet on the right, stamped and dated "North Yakima 1912" . . . it's an extraordinary piece of Yakima history!   Other North Yakima pieces include a collection of North Yakima  postcards and an amazing "North Yakima" restaurant-ware water pitcher too!

Clearly, our second space needs a little work . . . though, the bones are set . . . now, about those 45 crates of vignettes waiting to happen :) . . . sun is shining, time to get to work.
