How Many Featherweights Does a Recycler and Repurposer Need?
By: A CatEyeGirl  -  7/6/2012

Admittedly, unitl yesterday I could send a sewing machine’s tension into needing therapy by just looking at it.

funky junk, funky junk show, antique show, vintage market, seattle, portland, yakima, kennewick, richland, walla walla, puyallup, monroe, waterville, portland, oregon, washingtonAfter buying and immediately selling every single Singer Featherweight I could find, I actually took one of two in my possession out of its cute little suitcase yesterday afternoon and fired it up. It hummed along like a ’67 Volvo 123 GT mending tablecloths, repurposing a canvas apple picking bag into a laundry receptacle and tidying up the edges of some vintage flour sack dish towels. Featherweights ROCK!

I confess over the years I have had 5 relationships with various sewing machines.  They all ended in disaster, with too much tension between us.  After all of these relationship disasters with sewing machines, who kfunky junk, funky junk show, antique show, vintage market, yakima, monroe, tri-cities, seattle, puyallup, portland, hermiston, pendleton, oregon, washingtonnew I could sew?

Famous for the exacting stitches and portability, Featherweights have another claim to fame . . . anyone, including me, can sew with one!  They are intuitive and simple and come with a simple little set of instructions with supporting images.

So, how many Featherweights does a recycler and repurposer of old stuff need?

Three.  That's right, 3!

  • One to keep.
  • One to have available for sale.
  • And, one waiting in the wings so I will never be without one should I feel compelled or pressured into selling one that isn't techniqually for sale.
